Ivanka Trump has tested negative for COVID-19, just hours after her father confirmed that both he and First Lady Melania had contracted the virus.
The 38-year-old’s spokesperson confirmed on Twitter on Friday morning that both Ivanka and her husband Jared Kushner had been tested again for the virus in the wake of her father’s positive diagnosis, and both had received negative test results.
Ivanka and Jared, 39, were seen making their way to work as normal on Friday morning, blatantly disregarding the CDC’s quarantining guidelines, which advise anyone who has been in close contact with someone who has COVID-19 to isolate for 14 days, even if they have since tested negative themselves.
The CDC states that symptoms of the virus can appear anywhere from two to 14 days after exposure, and warns that a person who has been in close contact with someone who has COVID-19 may still have contracted the illness even if their initial test result is negative.
‘You may test negative if the sample was collected early in your infection and test positive later during this illness,’ official guidelines state.
Business as usual: Ivanka Trump tested negative for COVID-19 on Friday morning, her spokesperson revealed, hours after her father confirmed he and Melania have the virus
Confirmation: The 38-year-old’s spokesperson Carolina Hurley confirmed that both Ivanka and Jared had been tested on Friday morning, and both were negative
Well wishes: Ivanka tweeted kind words for her father and Melania after she was pictured heading to the White House, however she did not address her own health in the post
The First Daughter traveled with her father on Air Force One in the early hours of Wednesday morning, following the presidential debate, while her husband Jared flew to Minnesota with Hope Hicks, who has also tested positive, that same day.
Trump’s aide Hope began experiencing symptoms of the virus during her return trip to D.C. alongside Jared. She was quarantined away from others on the plane and her diagnosis was confirmed the following morning, according to an administration official.
Ivanka declined to address her health status personally on social media on Friday morning, instead leaving it to her spokesperson to share the news of her negative test result, however she did offer words of sympathy for her father and stepmother shortly after she was pictured leaving her home.
‘Praying for the swift recovery of my father and Melania and for all those impacted by COVID-19,’ she wrote on Twitter.
‘As they fight this together, the President will continue to fight for the people of this great country.’
It is not known whether Ivanka and Jared were tested before they left their Washington, D.C. home on Friday morning, or whether the tests were administered at the White House.
The couple have also not yet confirmed whether their three children – Arabella, Joseph, and Theodore – have been tested, however the youngsters are not understood to have been in contact with their grandfather since September 23, when they attended a campaign rally with him in Pennsylvania.
Too close for comfort? The mother-of-three posed for this unmasked photo with her father 48 hours before he shared the news of his diagnosis
September 29: On the night of the debate, Ivanka posed for a selfie backstage with her stepmother Melania, who has also tested positive. Both were wearing masks in the image
Group: Tiffany Trump, Kimberly Guilfoyle, and Lara Trump also posed in photos with Melania and traveled on Air Force One. None of them have confirmed whether they have been tested
Proximity: Ivanka sat alongside Melania, 50, in the debate venue, although the chairs were spaced apart
The First Daughter’s departure for work came just hours after the President and First Lady tweeted that they had both tested positive and were isolating at the White House – two days after attending the first presidential debate alongside several of Trump’s children, including Ivanka, Tiffany, Don Jr, and Eric.
Don Jr’s partner Kimberly Guilfoyle and Eric’s wife Lara were also present, and the entire group is understood to have traveled both to and from the debate with the President on Air Force One.
Hope also traveled with the First Family to the presidential debate; she was spotted by DailyMail.com getting off Air Force One in the city without her mask.
While at the debate, Ivanka posed for several masked photos alongside Melania, and the two also sat alongside each other during the event – however the chairs had been spread out to follow social-distancing guidelines.
Ivanka’s sister Tiffany, as well as Lara and Kimberly also appeared in the photos; none of them have yet to confirm whether they have been tested.
Following the debate, in the early hours of Wednesday morning, Ivanka then shared a photo of herself and her father posing together without face masks aboard Air Force One, with the First Daughter standing over President Trump with her hand on his shoulder.
Carrying on: Ivanka’s husband Jared Kushner, 39, was also seen making his way to work on Friday, days after traveling with Trump’s aide Hope Hicks who has also tested positive
September 30: Hope, 31, and Jared, 39, traveled to Minnesota together on Wednesday and she tested positive for the virus late on Thursday evening, hours before Trump’s diagnosis
The photo was posted almost exactly 48 hours before Trump tweeted about his positive test result, writing: ‘Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!’
Despite testing negative for COVID-19 on Friday morning, Ivanka’s decision to leave her home and head to work is in direct contradiction to the CDC’s quarantining guidelines.
Meanwhile her husband Jared was also pictured departing for work on Friday morning – despite having traveled with Trump’s aide Hope Hicks, who tested positive for COVID-19 hours before the President, on September 30.
On Wednesday, Jared and Hope, 31, traveled to Minnesota together, and were seen walking alongside one another at Andrews Air Force Base as they prepared to board their plane. Neither of them were wearing masks.
Hours later, as they made their way back to Washington, D.C., Hope began feeling unwell, and she tested positive for COVID-19 less than one day later, on Thursday morning.
The CDC advises anyone who has been in ‘close contact’ with a person who has COVID-19 to quarantine for 14 days after they came into contact with them – even if they have since tested negative themselves.
Business as usual: Despite the White House being informed that Hope had tested positive on Thursday morning, both Ivanka and her father attended scheduled campaign stops that day
Contact: Ivanka traveled to North Carolina and visited a local candy store and an art gallery, where she was seen interacting with a number of different people
Busy schedule: On Wednesday, while her husband Jared was traveling with Hope, Ivanka flew to Orlando, Florida, where she attended two campaign events, including a ‘fireside chat’
‘Even if you test negative for COVID-19 or feel healthy, you should stay home (quarantine) since symptoms may appear 2 to 14 days after exposure to the virus,’ the CDC website states.
The CDC defines close contact as being ‘within six feet of someone who has COVID-19 for a total of 15 minutes or more’, which both Jared and Ivanka have done in recent days.
Anyone who falls under this category is supposed to ‘stay home and monitor their health’ for 14 days after their last contact with a person who has COVID-19.
Typically, according to the CDC, a person develops symptoms five days after being infected, but symptoms can appear as early as two days after infection or as late as 14 days after infection, and the time range can vary.
It is understood that Ivanka was last in close contact with her father in the early hours of Wednesday morning when they traveled back from Cleveland following the presidential debate, meaning that she should self isolate until the early hours of October 14, according to CDC guidelines.
Schedules: Eric’s wife Lara traveled to New York on Thursday, when she shared videos of herself at La Guardia airport
Support: Lara and Tiffany were pictured in Cleveland ahead of the debate without masks on
Jared meanwhile was last known to have been in close contact with Hope later that same day, with the CDC recommendations suggesting that he should quarantine until the afternoon of October 14.
Despite Hope developing symptoms of the virus on Wednesday evening, and testing positive on Thursday morning, Trump and his daughter both went about their scheduled appearances as normal on Thursday.
The President attended a campaign event in Bedminster, New Jersey, while Ivanka traveled to North Carolina, where she visited several different local stores and a local art gallery, before traveling to a suburb of Dallas, where she was interviewed by Trump campaign staffer Mercedes Schlapp.
On Wednesday, Ivanka traveled to Florida, where she attended two campaign events in Orlando: a visit to the Asian Pacific Americans for Trump office and then a ‘fireside chat’ where she discussed her father’s ‘amazing’ economic policies.
Her brother Eric and his wife Lara were also traveling on Thursday; Eric flew to Wisconsin for a campaign event, while mother-of-two Lara shared videos of herself traveling to the airport, where she caught a flight bound for New York’s La Guardia airport.
