A car has mounted the pavement and ploughed into pedestrians in East London, amid fears several are seriously injured.

Emergency services including ambulance and fire crews are at the scene in the Stamford Hill area of Hackney.  

Paramedics are treating people along a stretch of main road, where on the busy pavement a grey car has crashed into a tree. 

Further down the street more paramedics are positioned next to a bus shelter that appears to have been smashed.

Scotland Yard are not treating it as a terrorist attack at this stage.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: ‘A car is reported to have mounted the pavement and struck a number of pedestrians.

‘We await an update on any injuries. At this early stage, this incident is not being treated as terror-related.’

They said that no arrests have yet been made but investigations are ongoing. 

At least 10 emergency service vehicles rushed to the scene in Hackney this morning. 

Paramedics were understood to be treating people who lay on the pavement near the car, including outside a fruit and veg store. 

Police are manning a cordon on the road.
