  • Met Police officers were called to the £5million Regent’s Park home on Tuesday
  • Mr Fawaz,  47, found the Wham! star dead in bed on Christmas Day in 2016

George Michael’s ex-boyfriend Fadi Fawaz is understood to have been spoken to by police after breaking into the star’s £5million London home just days before the fourth anniversary of the singer’s death.

Mr Fawaz, 47, found the Wham! star dead at his Oxfordshire home on Christmas morning 2016.

The Australian-born celebrity hairdresser was said to be squatting at Michael’s home in Regent’s Park, London until last year, when he was kicked out.

But Met Police officers were forced to remove him from the property this week, after he returned and allegedly smashed a window.

One witness heard Fawaz scream at officers: ‘This is my place. George wanted me to have it,’ according to The Sun.

It’s understood the former photographer managed to climb a security fence before getting inside the property.

The witness said police tried to reason with Mr Fawaz, but he would not listen.

They added: ‘In the end, they dragged him out and sent him packing but I wonder how long it will be before he returns.

‘This must be a very difficult and lonely time of the year for Fadi, with the anniversary of George’s death.’

Met Police told MailOnline tonight: ‘Officers attended and found a man aged in his 40s inside the property.

‘He was asked to leave the scene and complied. He was not arrested.

‘A window that had allegedly been smashed was later boarded up.’

The multi-million pound house in Central London has been left empty since Mr Fawaz was removed last year.

Since the Last Christmas’ singer’s death in 2016, Fawaz’s life has taken a turn for the worse.

He is understood to be sleeping rough and in budget hotels in East London, following an arrest earlier this year after cars were allegedly smashed with a hammer in Bethnal Green.

He was removed from the house in Regent’s Park last year after allegedly trashing the house, including windows, furniture, fixtures and fittings inside.

In a 2019 Facebook post he told friends he had become homeless, The Sun reported.

He said:  ‘George Michael the ikon (sic) 3 years later and his lawyers still not done anything to sort me out so in last few days I have been sleeping in the street in Covent Garden instead of being in my home.

A coroners report in March 2017 said George died of natural causes had dilated cardiomyopathy with myocarditis and fatty liver.

Since his death, it has emerged the Faith singer did not leave anything for his former partner in his £96million will.

Fadi Fawaz is said to have started dating George Michael in 2009, shortly after the star’s 13-year relationship with his American partner Kenny Goss, whom he’d spoken of marrying, ended.

Michael’s relationship with the Australian-born celebrity hairdresser and photographer remained private, and Michael only publicly announced that he had split from Goss in 2011 — two years after the event.

He and Fawaz were first pictured together — walking hand-in-hand —in 2015 in Switzerland, when Michael was reported to have checked in to the most expensive rehab clinic in the world, the Kusnacht Practice, costing £190,000 a month.

But tragically, on Christmas Day 2016, Fawaz found the singer dead in his home in Goring-on-Thames after attempting to wake him up so they could go to lunch.

In a statement at the time, Fawaz said he will ‘never stop missing’ Michael.

Fawaz was said to have been left scarred by the death of another close celebrity friend, Boyzone star Stephen Gately, who died from sudden adult death syndrome in 2009.

After Michael’s death, Mr Fawaz posted a link to a previously unreleased track by the singer called This Kind Of Love, but was reportedly forced to take it down when lawyers for Michael’s estate cited intellectual property rights.

Fawaz was by Michael’s side throughout his most recent crises.

Fawaz insisted he is not the author of tweets — since taken down — claiming that the star killed himself.

An inquest ruled the singer died of natural causes and had dilated cardiomyopathy with myocarditis and fatty liver.

Fawaz later admitted taking pictures of the late singer’s dead body at his multi-million pound mansion.

In a video seen by the Daily Star, Fawaz reportedly said: ‘I took pictures of him when he was dead,’ after discovering him ‘cold and blue.’ He also claims that ‘people are out to get him’ over the images.

The publication claims that Fawaz shared the video on his own Facebook page before deleting them two hours later.

Fawaz was left out of the singer’s £97million will and lived at Michael’s home for three years after his death.

Michael is believed to have left his money and properties – including the house in Oxfordshire where he died – to his sisters Melanie and Yioda.

In July 2019, Fawaz was arrested by police after ‘standing on the roof’ of the singer’s £5million mansion.

Police and the fire brigade raced to the property after Fawaz was reportedly seen ‘topless’ on the late star’s home in Regent’s Park – just days after allegedly smashing the windows of the property.

He was arrested on suspicion of aggravated criminal damage and taken away in a police van.

Police said the home had suffered ‘extensive’ damage and had to enlist the help of firefighters to clear up leaking water.

Then in September 2019 Fawaz’s family dismissed claims he was homeless and depressed in London and claimed he is ‘going to be OK’.

Fawaz was pictured pacing the street in Covent Garden amid claims he was sleeping rough after checking out of a £49-a-night Travelodge.

But relatives in Australia said they had been reassured by his friends that he was fine.

Then, in a series of disturbing tweets in October 2019, Fawaz claimed Michael was HIV positive and claimed his late lover did not write his own songs.

He wrote: ‘George Micheal was HIV+’.

He followed up his unsubstaniated claim saying: ‘We found out in Vienna after his illness.’

Mr Fawaz, whose Twitter bio reads simply ‘I will never stop missing you xxx’ then went on to allege: ‘He never wrote his own music he paid other people to make the music for him and pretended it was him. Not so talented after all ..’

He followed up the allegation with a selfie, insisting his account had not been hacked and said it was he who was sending the tweets.
