A home cook has impressed thousands of foodies around Australia with her simple recipe to replicate Kettle potato chips at home.

Posting to a popular cookery group, Mary said she cooked the thinly sliced potato chips in her air fryer for 25 minutes after boiling on the stove.

The chips turned out perfectly crispy and are a healthy alternative to the store-bought original.

‘So easy! I used a dollar store vegetable peeler,’ Mary wrote, explaining how she sliced the chips so thin.

Mary soaked the chips in water for ten minutes before cooking to remove the starch from the potatoes.

‘Drain and soak in water with a pinch of salt and teaspoon of vinegar for another ten minutes,’ she said.

The potato chips were then boiled on the stovetop for three minutes and seasoned with olive oil, garlic powder, salt and pepper.

To make the chips crispy, Mary placed them in the air fryer to cook on a high heat.

After sharing images of the chips on December 20, the post quickly attracted more than 2,000 ‘likes’ from other foodies – a reaction Mary didn’t expect.

‘Looks great, I’m going to try them with some different seasonings,’ one person said.

‘I’m feeling BBQ, sour cream, onion and chilli spices coming up!!’ another said.

A third added: ‘I saved this post and can hardly wait to try them. I’m waiting for Santa to bring me a mandolin’.

HOW TO MAKE POTATO CHIPS IN AN AIR FRYER

Ingredients 

  • Potatoes 
  • Salt and pepper 
  • Vinegar 
  • Olive oil 
  • Garlic powder 

Method

Thinly slice the potatoes using a mandolin or vegetable slicer 

Soak the chips in water for ten minutes to remove the starch 

Drain and soak in water with a pinch of salt and teaspoon of vinegar for another ten minutes 

Boil for three minutes on the stovetop, then take out and dry off with paper towel

Drizzle olive oil, garlic powder, salt and pepper over the chips and mixed together 

Added into air fryer and cook on high for about 25 minutes
