An Australian doctor has revealed the secrets behind his weight loss, after he lost an impressive 9.2 kilograms in just six weeks.

GP Dr Phillip Wuth, from Brisbane, was carrying excessive levels of body fat six weeks ago when he tipped the scales at 101.1kg, and he knew he needed to make a change to his diet and exercise regime.

Today, Dr Wuth has dropped to 91.9kg, cut down his metabolic age from 50 years to 43 years and got rid of 2.4 per cent of unhealthy body fat.

Even better, he has taken his visceral fat rating from a ‘high level’ of 10.5 to a healthier level of 9.

‘Excess body fat is associated with significant risk of metabolic diseases like diabetes and I have a strong family history of these issues,’ Dr Wuth told FEMAIL.

‘I knew I needed to “walk the walk” and show what is possible with a preventative approach to health and disease prevention.’

When it came to how he lost the weight, Dr Wuth said the most important thing was tweaking his diet.

‘I started consuming 1,500 calories per day and following the professional-approved meal program from Youfoodz and The Doctor’s Kitchen,’ Dr Wuth told Daily Mail Australia.

The Doctor’s Kitchen is Australia’s only medically prescribed weight loss meals for fat loss and metabolic health.

Rather than tracking your health through tape measures and ordinary scales, progress is measured through a patient’s individual biometrics and body composition results.

Ready-to-eat meals based around a 1,500 calorie plan were sent to Dr Wuth each week.

He then enjoyed the likes of egg white scramble and ‘breakie beans’, Thai coconut salmon and mixed vegetables and roast chicken with pumpkin and feta on a typical given day:

‘The key is to eat fewer calories than you expend and monitor your vital stats like your body fat and muscle mass,’ Dr Wuth said.

Dr Wuth would eat the meals from Youfoodz and The Doctor’s Kitchen five days a week and prepare his own meals for two days of the week.

‘I found that keeping my protein intake high was key to fuelling fat burn,’ Dr Wuth said.

‘Keeping your protein intake high helps to preserve your health and muscle mass while losing weight, and it also keeps you fuller for longer, reduces your appetite, speeds up the metabolism and helps to prevent weight gain after weight loss.’

He tracked his vital statistics including body fat and muscle mass each week using special bio-impedance composition scales and monitored all of his progress by writing down how far he’d come.

‘Unlike ordinary scales that record only body weight, the Doctor’s bio-impedance scales provides additional data such as body fat, abdominal fat, muscle mass and basal metabolic rate (BMR) (the number of calories your body burns at rest),’ Dr Wuth said.

‘New research has found that these are the numbers that matter and can be the key to losing weight and keeping it off.’

What are the doctor’s secrets to lasting weight loss?

* Track all of your vital statistics including weight, body mass index and muscle mass. You can do this with special composition scales.

* Figure out how many calories you should be eating per day and follow that plan as strictly as possible.

* Learn to listen to hunger cues, and you might notice you don’t need to snack as much and as often.

* Find an exercise plan you can stick to, set aside the time in your diary and build it up slowly.

* Keep your protein intake high to encourage fat burn, but also allow you to stay full.

Dr Wuth said his top tips for anyone else who wants to lose weight is to learn to listen to your body a bit more:

‘Learning to take notice of my hunger cues rather than eating out of habit have been very helpful in controlling the excess calories I used to eat,’ he said.

‘When you develop good habits, you don’t get the hunger and sugar cravings that you used to.’

Dr Wuth recommends finding an exercise plan that you can stick to, and incorporating some form of movement each and every day:

‘Regular exercise helps to make me feel more energetic, and seeing my clothes fit more comfortably always helps with motivation too.’
