A 19-year-old man followed a mother and daughter to their Florida home, crawled through a window while they were sleeping early on Monday morning, grabbed a butcher knife from the kitchen, and fatally stabbed them, according to police.

Sage Curry was arrested on Monday and charged with two counts of first-degree murder and burglary, according to an arrest report issued by the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office near Tampa Bay.

According to investigators, Curry confessed to the killings. Police said they believe the murders were random and that there was no known relationship between Curry and his victims, WFLA-TV reported.

Investigators did caution, however, that that assessment could change over the course of their probe.

The victims are believed to be a mother and a daughter who lived inside the home. Their identities have yet to be released.

The victims’ family has invoked Marsy’s Law, a new statute that was added to the state constitution. It prohibits police from revealing the identities of victims of violent crime in their public reports.

Police were called to a home on 8th Avenue NW in Largo just before 2am on Monday after Curry ran to a neighbor and asked for help.

When investigators went inside the home, they found two bodies on the floor. Curry allegedly told police that he followed the women to their home.

He is alleged to have told investigators that he entered the home through a bedroom window and killed his first victim by stabbing her several times in the chest.

According to police, the other woman in the home heard the attack and came to the defense of the woman being stabbed.

Curry is then alleged to have stabbed the other woman several times in the face and neck.

According to investigators, Curry was injured by the second woman who came to the defense of the first victim. It is unclear whether the mom or daughter was first to be attacked.

Curry is then alleged to have gone to a neighbor and asked for help in treating the injuries that he had sustained during the fatal stabbing of the second victim.

According to investigators, Curry confessed to grabbing the sharpest kitchen knife he could find and stabbing both women multiple times.

He also is alleged to have told investigators that he rolled the body of one of his victims off of the couch in an attempt to make her death look like an accident.

Curry is being held at Pinellas County Jail. He has no prior criminal record as an adult.

Authorities believe Curry suffers from mental illness.

Jordan Martin, a local resident who said he worked with Curry at a nearby car wash, described the suspect as a quiet, nice young man who kept to himself.

‘Just shock overall, I’d never think someone like this could do something like that. So just shocked right now,’ Martin told WFLA-TV.

During a court appearance on Tuesday, Curry told the judge that he ‘had no money’ to pay for an attorney.

The court assigned a public defender to represent him during legal proceedings.
