Property expert Sarah Beeny shares a bath with husband sons – but GMB viewers say it’s ‘unhygienic’

Would YOU share bath water with your family? Squeamish GMB viewers say it’s ‘unhygienic’ as property expert Sarah Beeny defends getting into the tub after her husband and FOUR sons

  • Property guru Sarah Beeny, 49, revealed Sunday she re-uses family’s bath water
  • Mother-of-four avoids wasting water by sharing with her kids and her husband
  • Appeared on Good Morning Britain today with Apprentice star Luisa Zissman
  • Viewers weren’t convinced by her arguments saying sharing bath is ‘unhygienic’

Sarah Beeny says she sometimes reuses the same bath water as her husband and four sons to avoid waste – but squeamish Good Morning Britain viewers called it ‘unhygenic’.

The 49-year-old property guru said last week that she likes to unwind in the evening with nice bath – but not before sons Billy, 15, Charlie, 13, Raffy, 10, and Lawrie, nine, have had a dunk in the water.

Appearing on ITV today from her Somerset home, Sarah said she was surprised that people were shocked by her admission, while Apprentice star Luisa Zissman said she would never dream of sharing her bath.

Viewers were divided over the issue, but the majority felt uneasy about sharing someone else’s dirty bath water, with one teasing she ‘might as well have a dip in the Thames’.

‘I am so amazed what a furore this has brought out’, said Sarah. ‘I thought everybody would say [they do the same]. I’m really surprised it’s made everyone so hot under the collar to be honest.

Luisa went on to argue: ‘I watched your show Sarah, I absolutely loved it, loved your family, loved how how outdoorsy you are, we’re quite similar. But I mean, your boys jump in lakes, they roll around on the farm – you’ll be dirtier when you get out!’

Sarah relocated from London to just outside Bruton three years ago and started renovating a semi-derelict former dairy farm three years ago, and is currently living in a temporary home.

She is filming the renovations for her show New Country Life, which follows the couple as they attempt to build the home of their dreams.

‘If they have done mud sliding, I won’t get in that bath!’, Sarah replied. ‘It’s not a rule, it’s not like we all have to have the same bath, but we’re in a temporary house and we don’t have a lot of hot water.’

However Luisa remained unconvinced: ‘I think of the dead skin cells. If you’re going to save the planet, there are other ways to save the planet, don’t eat meat, don’t eat dairy, it’s the best thing you can do, and having a shower saves water and it’s much cleaner.’

Sarah replied: ‘I don’t like showers and I’m not going to suddenly have showers because lots of people think I should.

‘Personally, I like a bath and secondly, your skin falls off all day. It doesn’t just store up and fall off when you get in the bath. If you wear your husband’s jumper it will be full of his skin cells.’

Viewers were quick to take to Twitter to share their views, and while some were in agreement with Sarah – several didn’t seem keen on the idea, with one saying they’d rather take a ‘shower in the rain’.

‘I personally wouldn’t because I can’t trust my child not to pee in it’, said one viewer.

Another wrote: ‘No that’s just unhygienic having someone else’s dirt in the same bath as you. You’re not getting clean if you use dirty water.’

A third said: ‘For God’s sake… It’s not possible to be completely clean immersed in your own dirty water, let alone when you get into someone else’s dirty water!’

‘Not a chance would I use the bath water after my husband & four children, by the time I got in it it would be freezing cold & probably would have been peed in (by the younger kids not the husband)’, another commented.
