US firm designs 520ft mega vessel Galleon with four giant sails and eight decks

If you’re a super-rich seafarer with an avid interest in sports and luxury living, then this mammoth eight-deck superyacht might be the lavish mega vessel for you.

The Galleon, the largest design so far in the Goliath Series of superyachts, would provide hours of entertainment with plans showing how it would be fitted out with a full-sized basketball court, a tennis court, and four handball courts below deck.

The luxurious ship, designed as a modern version of a Spanish 16th century Galleon cargo carrier, would suit multi-millionaires hosting extravagant parties with accommodation for up to 200 guests and 150 crew members.

The Galleon would provide hours of entertainment with plans showing how it would be fitted out with a full-sized basketball court, a tennis court, and four handball courts below deck 

Its striking red and white design, as well as the four giant sails, give it the appearance of a multi-decked sailing ship that wouldn’t have looked out of place in the Spanish Armada

The lavish vessel would have a displacement tonnage of nearly 22,000 but would still be able to reach high speeds of 18 knots thanks to its engines, providing 10,000hp. The superyacht would dwarf regular sailing yachts as shown in this computer-generated image

Its striking red and white design, as well as the four giant sails, give the modern Galleon the appearance of a multi-decked sailing ship that wouldn’t have looked out of place in the Spanish Armada.

The 520-foot (158-metre) long design is not far shy of the 590-foot (179-metre) Azzam yacht, which is considered to be the longest yacht in the world and is said to be owned by the Abu Dhabi royal family.

The fully-enclosed hangar of 4500 square feet is fully equipped for hoards of guests, as it boasts space for 10 helicopters, an aircraft maintenance facility and a landing area – should anyone bring their own helicopters.
