Dozens of riot police descended on south London last night after officers were attacked by a large group of men while attending the scene of a suspected shooting and stabbing.

Videos on social media show a heavy police presence in Brixton – including dogs and a helicopter – after emergency services were called to reports of an injured man at around 9.35pm.

A man in his mid-20s was found suffering gunshot injuries and stab wounds. He was taken by the London Ambulance Service to a south London hospital but his condition remains unknown.

Meanwhile, just one hour after the Brixton incident, police officers were called to another stabbing in Norwood – less than three miles away.

A man was discovered with stab wounds and was rushed to hospital just before 11pm. Pictures show police and forensic officers examining bloody clothing, a mobile phone and a weapon at the scene of the attack.

The force has been approached for comment.

It comes amid a spate of carnage in the capital, which saw a popular 55-year-old florist stabbed to death in Islington, a man chased through London’s Hyde Park by a gang wielding machetes, and a 15-year-old boy stabbed in Chelsea harbour- among other grizzly attacks.

‘Gang of white boys screamed we know what you look like n*****’ before stabbing 14-year-old to death in the street

Witnesses to the fatal stabbing of a 14-year-old say they heard a ‘gang of white boys’ scream ‘we know what you look like n****’ moments before the knife attack.

Teenager Dea-John Reid, 14, was reportedly chased by a gang before being fatally stabbed in the chest during the incident in Kingstanding near Birmingham.

A source told MailOnline that one of the attackers was heard shouting: ‘I know what you look like, you n*****’ during the stabbing.

Community activist Desmond Jaddoo added today: ‘We have heard there were racial slurs being hurled by the people who were chasing him but the police are dismissing that.’

They added: ‘We’d like to thank the emergency services for their diligence and support…and the public for their outpouring of love and support throughout this tragic and challenging time.

‘This loss not only affects us but everyone Dea-John knew, we have lost a son, his siblings have lost a brother and others have lost a friend.

‘The passing of this incredibly talented young boy will be felt by us all. How many more mothers will have to mourn for their sons for this to stop?’

‘Officers, including firearms officers, and London’s Air Ambulance attended.

‘A man, aged in his mid-20s, was found suffering what are believed to be gunshot injuries and stab wounds. He was taken by the LAS to a south London hospital; we await an update on his condition.

The Brixton unrest came the same day a 21-year-old man was charged with the murder of popular florist Tony Eastlake, who was stabbed to death just yards from his stall in north London over the Bank Holiday weekend.

The 55-year-old – whose family described him as a ‘very special man’ and ‘loved by everybody’ – was attacked on Essex Road, Islington on Saturday at around 5.30pm and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Scotland Yard said James Peppiatt of Canonbury has been charged with murder, and has been remanded in custody.

Loud applause broke out at a vigil held in his honour on Monday attended by friends, family and loved ones, as his daughter Paige Eastlake called the flower seller ‘my twin’ and ‘my best friend’.

Detective Chief Inspector Vicky Tunstall, leading the investigation for the Metropolitan Police, has asked anyone with information to come forward and check CCTV or dashcam footage.

She said: ‘I hope this brings some reassurance to the community after what was an incredibly traumatic and unsettling incident that has cost the life of a well loved and respected man.

And on Tuesday, footage showed a man being chased through London’s Hyde Park by a gang wielding machetes last night before being hacked to the ground with foot-long blades in front of screaming onlookers.

Shocking footage posted on social media shows a sprawling confrontation between a large group of youths and what appeared to be a single victim in a black tracksuit.

As members of the public fled in terror, the gang pursued the victim through the park before he slipped and fell to the ground enabling them to punch and kick him in the head.

Using street slang for a stabbing, a male voice in the crowd says: ‘He bored him! Oh s*** he bored him!’

As the clip finishes, the victim is lying motionless on his back. He was rushed to a central London hospital and police said last night they believed he would survive.

Kaiser was on patrol with his handler, PC Mark Woolcott, when the pair were called to a report of a back garden intruder in Orpington, south London.

After tracking down the suspect, Kaiser was stabbed four times on the top of his head and once below his eye.

Despite his wounds, the brave Alsatian was able to keep hold of the man for long enough to allow officers to detain him.

Kaiser was taken to the vets where he required stitches. Fortunately, the knife only struck bone – narrowly avoiding lasting injury.

He was kept in overnight for observation but is expected to make a full recovery.

Another police officer also received a broken wrist and is expected to be off work for up to a month. A 43-year-old man was later detained under the Mental Health Act and is now receiving treatment.
