A family quarantined at a hotel in Heathrow after they flew in from Dubai have hit out at the ‘disgusting’ food they have been served during their stay.

The mother, father and their teenage daughter paid £3,050 for an 11-day stay at the hotel but say the food has been ‘inedible’.

They have detailed the substandard food on Facebook, showing chips dripping in grease, a lasagne that featured only cheese and not a vegetable in sight.

Photographs of the food at Leonardo Hotel show a sandwich featuring just a single sausage, soggy rice and a lasagne that had separated, with just one half bechamel sauce.

Another shows noodles swimming in oil and a small plate of fish and chips turned brown by over frying.

Breakfast on another day was two rashers of bacon in a roll. Not a single meal contained vegetables or fruit.

The British family, who do not want to be named, flew into London Heathrow on June 18 from their current home in Dubai.

They needed to visit unwell family members and chose to accept that they would have to pay out to self isolate at an approved hotel.

The parents are fully vaccinated and have already had negative PCR tests since their arrival. But they will still have to remain at the hotel until June 29, as the UAE is on Britain’s red list for international travel.

The mother, who did not wish to be named, said of the food: ‘It’s disgusting and it’s wrong.

‘The food here is inedible. We are having to live off food deliveries.

‘I’d describe the food as inedible, substandard, swimming in grease, and like gruel.’

And she added: ‘We live between the UK and Dubai and we haven’t been back to the UK for 18 months.

‘We travelled back to see parents and grandparents who are in ill health.

‘We felt very safe on the fight until we landed. We were taken off the plane where we had been socially distanced for seven hours and rammed onto a bus shoulder to shoulder.

‘There should have been a max of 48 on the bus but there must have been 150.

‘After we got our baggage we were put onto another bus along with passengers arriving from India. Bearing in mind we travelled from Dubai and it has its border fully closed to India.’

And she added: ‘We feel like prisoners. My husband is working remotely and my daughter is also doing her school work remotely.

‘Other than that we are watching TV, sitting on beds all day. ‘There is one chair in the room. Luckily we have a room with a window that opens.’

All passengers are required to quarantine for 10 days in a managed quarantine hotel in the UK upon arrival from Dubai.

They must also take a Covid-19 PCR test on or before day two and on or after day eight of quarantining.

The British government advises against all but essential travel to the whole of the United Arab Emirates based on current Covid-19 risk.

MailOnline has approached the hotel for a comment.

Earlier this week a family of four from Scotland claimed their quarantine hotel had left their two children with a stomach bug.

Puneet, 39, and wife Priyanka, 37, from Edinburgh, travelled to Chhattishgarh in India to attend Priyanka’s mother’s funeral after she died in April.

They arrived on April 17, with their four-year-old daughter Preet and 13-month-old son, Parth.

The family flew back to London on  June 4, and made their way to the hotel Corporate Travel Management had booked for their 10-day quarantine, the Park Plaza in Waterloo, at the price of £2,400.

But the family claim the experience was a nightmare from start to finish.

Priyanka and Puneet claim families were only allowed 15 minutes of fresh air per day and were stuffed into a ‘claustrophobic’ room with their children and offered meals that gave their children a vomiting bug.

The hotel denies their claims and says it has not been informed by ‘the medical support team of any guests suffering from stomach bugs related to food served.’

A Park Plaza spokesperson responded: ‘We take our role in assisting the UK government with its hotel quarantine programme very seriously, to help provide a safe and comfortable experience for travellers.

‘We understand that the quarantine process may be difficult for travellers and we do our utmost to make our guests feel welcome throughout their stay.

‘We are working closely with the DHSC and the relevant authorities to ensure the service we provide meets the parameters set by the government.

‘Furthermore, we endeavour to provide service levels above and beyond what is expected of a government-approved quarantine hotel.

‘For privacy reasons, we cannot share information related to specific guests.

‘However, as part of the arrangement with DHSC, there is a medic on site for guests 24/7 and the hotel team hasn’t been informed by the medical support team of any guests suffering from stomach bugs related to food served.’
