An 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after the body of a woman was found in Leicester.

Leicestershire Police said a man handed himself in to Cambridgeshire Police in Peterborough this morning.

The force previously said there was ‘nothing to suggest’ the discovery of the victim’s body in a property on Lincoln Street yesterday was connected to an earlier fatal stabbing half a mile away.

A murder investigation has been launched following the discovery of a woman’s body in a property in Lincoln Street, Leicester

Leicestershire Police said a man handed himself in to Cambridgeshire Police in Peterborough this morning. The force previously said there was ‘nothing to suggest’ the discovery of the victim’s body in a property on Lincoln Street was connected to an earlier fatal stabbing

Detective Inspector Kenny Henry, who is leading the investigation from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit, said: ‘A man made himself known to police in Peterborough this morning and has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

‘Our inquiries are still in their early stages but at this time, we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.

‘I would like to reiterate to the local community that there is nothing to suggest the woman’s death is linked to another incident in the same area earlier in the week.

‘However, I would like to speak to anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious, unusual or untoward in Lincoln Street yesterday afternoon and who has not yet come forward. Any information you have could help my investigation.’

It comes after two more men were arrested over the stabbing death of a teenager in an unconnected incident in the city on Wednesday night.

Officers were called to the scene at 5.59pm on Saturday by East Midlands Ambulance Service

Abdirahim Mohamed, 18, was found suffering from stab wounds in Melbourne Street, in the city’s Spinney Hills area, before he died shortly afterwards in the early hours of Thursday morning.

On Friday, Leicestershire Police said two men, both aged 29 and from Leicester, had been arrested on suspicion of murder. Both remain in police custody to be questioned by detectives.

Officers previously arrested a 58-year-old man, also on suspicion of murder, in connection with the case.

Detective Inspector Steve Shaw from EMSOU said on Friday: ‘I understand that there will be some concern in the community about the two incidents just a few days apart.

‘There is nothing to suggest that the two incidents are connected.’
