Will Young has hit out at The Grand Tour host Richard Hammond for making what he regards as homophobic jokes after he watched an episode of the Amazon series.

The singer, 42, was left ‘shocked and upset’ after the presenter, 51, made ‘offensive jokes’ when Jeremy Clarkson drove a pink Jeep Wrangler in the Colombia special in 2019.

In an interview with The Times, Will said Jeremy was ‘the least of his problems’ and that Hammond was actually the ‘worst one’.

Unimpressed: Will Young has hit out at The Grand Tour host Richard Hammond for making what he regards as homophobic jokes after he watched an episode of the Amazon series

Will said: ‘Clarkson is the least worst. The worst one is Richard Hammond … because he says things like “I’ve got lots of gay friends”.

‘The producers chose to make the main narrative ‘Jeremy Clarkson is driving a hairdresser’s car. Basically, Jeremy Clarkson is gay. They had him wearing a pink shirt. They spray the car pink. They have him playing It’s Raining Men.

‘Clarkson was the least of my problems. It was Richard Hammond and it was the producers. They created the whole thing and it was Amazon that let it go out. I was so shocked and so upset.’

Speaking out: The singer, 42, was left ‘shocked and upset’ after the presenter, 51, made ‘offensive jokes’ when Jeremy Clarkson drove a pink Jeep Wrangler in  a 2019 episode

LGB-Jeep? The episode was a Colombia Special and sees Clarkson branding the 4X4 an ‘LGB-Jeep’

Will had previously hit out at the episode when it aired on Twitter and was upset after fans rushed to defend the presenters and branded him a ‘snowflake.

Will told the publication he found it ‘really annoying’ and wished Hammond and producers would ‘take responsibility’.

At the time, the singer wrote: ‘1. I love cars always have always will. 2. I loved going on top gear 3. Excited about watching new Top gear and I’m afraid 3 heterosexual men SO uncomfortable with their sexuality that they reference in some lame way a Wrangler Jeep being a Gay mans car.

‘…. and then Hammond and May’s ‘quips’ to Clarkson wearing chaps , a pink shirt , he should get some moisturiser . It’s f***ing pathetic and actually homophobic . And screw them and the show and Amazon (who by the way is a wonderful organisation I hope to forge a relationship).

Stereotypical? Gormer Pop Idol champion Will said: ‘The producers chose to make the main narrative “Jeremy Clarkson is driving a hairdresser’s car”‘

‘Hang on they are doing more HYSTERICAL things . Pink roof now on Clarkson’s Jeep AND they are playing “it’s raining men” it’s SO funny I can’t contain myself. I mean being gay is just SO funny for those type of straight men @PrimeVideo.

‘And you know what really f***s me off is this is a DECISION by the producers . Let’s make one of the narratives the ‘gay Jeep’ how DARE you, you obtuse, bigoted immature babies of men.’

A day later, with no response from Amazon Prime, Will added: ‘No word from @PrimeVideo so @Ofcom beckons. Enough is enough and I’m p***ed and fed up. I want Amazon Prime and the producers of grand tour to meet young lgbt who want to kill themselves because of shaming and laughter and normalising of shaming homophobic narratives..

Standing strong: When the Columbia special was broadcast in 2019, Richard denied allegations he was homophobic, saying: ‘I entirely reject any criticism of me being anti-gay’

Hit show: The Grand tour is broadcast on Amazon Prime, and is hosted by (left-right) Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond

‘… your time is up and it’s time to take a stand.

‘Gay men. I DON’T drive a Wrangler Jeep. I DON’T wear pink shirts . I DON’T wear arseless chaps. You can be honest and funny without this ridiculous “lad” ooh being gay and let’s laugh about it mentality. It’s repulsive and how DARE you do it and put it out @PrimeVideo.’

Will concluded: ‘Is there a legal case ? Who knows . ……. watch this space.’

MailOnline has contacted representatives for Richard and Amazon Prime for comment.

Will went on to tell The Times that he had previously defended the presenters of The Grand Tour on Twitter but insisted Richard should ‘take responsibility’ for his comments.

When the Columbia special was broadcast in 2019, Richard denied allegations he was homophobic, saying: ‘I entirely reject any criticism of me being anti-gay.’

Controversial: Will says he thinks Richard could give Jeremy Clarkson a run for his money when it comes to controversy
