Alec Baldwin was reportedly ‘hysterical and absolutely inconsolable for hours’ after accidentally shooting and killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on a movie set Thursday afternoon, with a source claiming he’s now cancelling all other projects.
The 63-year-old actor is looking ‘to take some time to himself and re-center himself’ after he was spotted walking out of a hotel and embracing Hutchins’ husband Matt on Saturday morning, just two days after the fatal stunt. He is also said to have been seen hugging Matt and Halyna’s son Andros, 9.
‘This was pretty devastating,’ the source told People magazine.
‘This is how he handles difficult times. Whenever something bad happens, in the short term, he removes himself from [the] public eye.’
Baldwin and Matthew Hutchins left a Santa Fe Hotel together with Hutchins’ son Andros on Saturday morning, just five days after Baldwin killed Hutchins with a prop gun that was loaded on the set of the movie Rust, detectives say.

Baldwin was sighted as it emerged the movie’s assistant director Dave Hall allegedly broke gun safety protocols on the set of 2019 Hulu show Into The Dark. He is said to have ignored a rule stipulating that all guns, real or fake, should have their presence announced on set in order to ensure proper safety procedures are followed.
Hall was further accused of holding short gun safety meetings, and remarking that they seemed pointless, because the same procedures were followed on all other motive sets.
On Saturday, sources told the Daily Beast that Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the 24-year-old armorer on set, was ‘careless’ and had previously handed a gun to an 11-year-old actress on a different set.
‘She was a bit careless with the guns, waving it around every now and again,’ said one source who worked with Gutierrez-Reed on the upcoming Nicolas Cage film The Old Way.
‘There were a couple times she was loading the blanks and doing it in a fashion that we thought was unsafe.’
Matthew Hutchins, who has shared his heartbreak on social media after losing wife Halyna, 42, was spotted along with his assistant and the couple’s son Andros on Saturday in Santa Fe.

A change.org petition calling for Hollywood to ban the use of firearms on film sets has gathered over 10,000 signatures since it was created on Thursday.
The petition was started by Hutchins’ friend and colleague Director Bandar Albuliwi who wrote: ‘We need to make sure that this avoidable tragedy never happens again. There is no excuse for something like this to happen in the 21st century. Real guns are no longer needed on film production sets.’
He tweeted: ‘There’s no reason to have guns loaded with blanks or anything on set anymore. Should just be fully outlawed. There’s computers now.

The actor also said he was fully cooperating with the police investigation. IATSE Local 44, a labor union for professionals in the entertainment industry, has said that the prop gun fired by Baldwin contained a live single road.

Film crew revealed they walked off set hours before the fatal accident over safety fears after firearms were accidentally discharged three times – including once by Baldwin’s stunt double who had been told the gun was not loaded, and twice in a closed cabin.
A search warrant released Friday said that Hannah Gutierrez-Reed laid out three prop guns on a cart outside the filming location, and first assistant director Dave Halls grabbed the gun from the cart and brought it inside to Baldwin, unaware that it was loaded with live rounds.
‘Cold gun!’ shouted Halls before handing the gun to Baldwin, using the phrase to signal to cast and crew that the gun was safe to fire for the scene, the warrant said.
Seconds later, filming a scene inside an Old West-style church, Baldwin apparently aimed towards the camera and pulled the trigger, accidentally killing Hutchins as she filmed him, and injuring director Joel Souza, who stood behind her.
Neither Halls nor Gutierrez-Reed immediately returned messages from DailyMail.com late on Friday. Neither has been charged or named as a criminal suspect in the case, though a police investigation is ongoing.
The movie, set in 1880’s Kansas, stars Baldwin as the infamous outlaw Harland Rust, whose grandson is sentenced to hang for an accidental murder.
