Yelena’s purple bruises were visible underneath her eyes, but in the caption, she insisted that ‘it was all worth it.’
‘I was scared to look [in] the mirror the first couple days,’ she admitted in the comments. ‘I’ve never seen anything like that.’
Less than a week later, she posted a follow-up clip to show how red her eyes were from the broken blood vessels. She also shared that she was healing from a third-degree tear, which involves partial tearing of the anus.
‘Thank god my labor was only 8 hours,’ she joked in the caption.
While a number of mothers could relate to her experience, other TikTok users were shocked by her broken blood vessels.
Yelena said her blood vessels burst while she was pushing, which she was unaware could happen
‘Eyes? Is it something that can happen after birth?’ one viewer asked.
Earlier this week, Yelena answered the commenter’s question in a video that she recorded while her baby boy was asleep on her chest.
‘Yep, it’s definitely something that can happen from the pushing, and it happened to me,’ she said before sharing a photo of herself shortly after she gave birth.
‘Don’t get scared because it was really, really bad,’ she warned.
The image showed all of the broken blood vessels around her face and on the bridge of her nose, which looked like little purple dots on her skin.
Yelena said she was in labor for eight hours and pushed intensely for an hour
She also suffered a third-degree vaginal tear, but she insisted it was ‘all worth it’
Yelena said it took about two weeks for her broken blood vessels to heal, though she admitted she was ‘scared to look in the mirror the first couple days’
Yelena said it took about two weeks for all the broken blood vessels to heal, jokingly adding: ‘So, yeah, I definitely didn’t get that cute hospital photo with my baby.’
The video has been viewed more than 790,000 times, and many mothers chimed in to share their own childbirth experiences.
‘This happened to me too! I could barely see by the end,’ one viewer wrote, while another added: ‘I got this too! All over my face and body.’
Yelena replied that she also had broken blood vessels on her neck, saying: ‘I was so surprised. I never knew this could happen.’
One mom recalled how her nurse told her not to push with her face while she was in labor, saying: ‘This must be why she said it.’

The mom, pictured four weeks postpartum, shared that her stitches from her vaginal tear had healed a few weeks ago
‘This happened to me too, but one entire eye was blood red,’ someone else shared. ‘It was adorable.’
It is common for mothers to experience bloodshot eyes and broken blood vessels after giving birth.
The tiny capillaries in the eyes, face, and chest can burst with visible results due to intense pushing during labor, according to What to Expect.
Other commenters said they have had broken blood vessels in their face from vomiting and coughing, which is also common.
Yelena admitted that the broken capillaries in her eyes and face were worse for her than her vaginal tear.
‘The face bothered me more though LOL,’ she wrote. ‘It took forever to heal and I just wanted to hide in a hole.’
