Mark Kermode and Simon Mayo have presented their last film review show on BBC Five Live after 21 years.  

The seasoned broadcasters, 58 and 63, have announced they will host a brand new podcast called Kermode and Mayo’s Take which will replace their film review, and presented their last episode of the weekly show on Friday.

Simon took to Twitter before the show to share a picture of his security pass outside the BBC building as he wrote: ‘Last day of term (40 years after it started). So. Once more, with feeling…’

However, hours later Simon revealed his pass had been cancelled before he left the building causing him to seek help. 

He told his fans: ‘And my BBC pass was cancelled before I left the building. So the security doors wouldn’t work. Had to be helped out. #notquitethegoldwatch.’

Their new podcast will be produced in partnership with Sony Music Entertainment’s Global Podcast Division.

One wrote: ‘I am so sorry it has come to this. The appalling way you (& many others) have been treated beggars belief.’

Another said: ‘This is a very sad day. I began to listen to you when I was a toolsetter. 25 years later, I look after children with complex needs. Take care and thanks for the good times.’

Kermode and Mayo’s new twice weekly podcast series focuses on theatrical, streaming and physical film releases, as well as high-level global television in the UK and US beginning Thursday May 5.

Listeners can expect discussions about current and classic releases, recommendations and warnings, as well as special episodes that respond to big news and events across the industry.

Mark said: ‘Simon Mayo is quite simply one of the best broadcasters in the word and I’m thrilled to be teaming up with him again for this new Sony podcast, which will allow us to bicker about movies and tv (and skiffle, obviously) to our hearts’ content.’

Simon added: ‘We said it wasn’t the end. The sequel is here… this time with sequins.’
