An absurd act of vandalism in a picture postcard village has prompted outrage and mirth in equal measure.
West Mercia Police appealed for information after lamb chops were stuffed up a car exhaust pipe in Credenhill, Herefordshire, on Saturday, April 2.
Other inane acts of anti-social behaviour included chicken legs wedged inside a car wheel rim and eggs thrown at a property.
A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: ‘We are investigating an incident in Credenhill, Herefordshire.
Lamb chops were stuffed up a car exhaust pipe in Crednhill, Herefordshire, on the evening of Saturday, April 2
Two chicken legs were placed inside a car wheel in the bizarre vandalism
‘On April 2 at approximately 9.35pm, eggs and raw meat were thrown at a property in the area. The offender then proceeded to stuff lamb chops in to the exhaust pipe of a vehicle that was parked on the driveway.
‘Another property nearby also had food thrown at it.’
No information was given as the the probable motive for the mischief or why two properties were targeted. News of the ‘vandalism’ sparked wry humour online, with readers mocking the ‘offal crime’.
Ryan Davies posted on Facebook: ‘Probably the most middle class act of vandalism seen in a while.’
John Booton added: ‘Apparently if they catch the person who did it, they will be told that they ‘Mutton’ do it again.’
Users on Facebook reacted with glee at the absurd act of vandalism, while other other criticised the waste of food
Others were more scathing about the waste of meat as the country tightens its belts in a cost of living crisis.
Wendy Cole posted: ‘What a waste of lamb chops! Someone is doing well for themselves if they can afford to shove it up an exhaust.’
West Mercia Police added: ‘If you have information about the incident, please let us know using the online ‘Tell Us About’ form on our website www.westmercia.police.uk, quoting incident reference 00647_I_02042022 or contact us via 101.
