The Queen was cheered for her impeccable comic timing today – as her reactions to Alan Titchmarsh and Omid Djalili’s parts of the Platinum Jubilee celebration went viral.

Her Majesty was subjected to a number of soft jokes and praise during the ITV-broadcasted spectacular last night.

But away from the displays and megastar guest presenters, most viewers were glued to the occasional glimpses of the head Royal.

The show had received mixed reactions from viewers over the content and choices of guests.

One remarked ‘This is dire. Poor Queen. Has she been dragged out for this?’ while another opined ‘Absolutely truly abysmal’.

However there seemed to be almost unanimous approval of the Royal’s reactions to different parts of the show.

The funniest came at the end as Alan Titchmarsh festooned the Queen with warm words.

He told her ‘For 70 years there’s been one constant heartbeat of this nation and that heart belongs to Her Majesty the Queen.’

Spontaneous applause they broke out and the cameras cut to the Royal.

The Queen appeared in agreement and – after looking at a friend – shrugged modestly.

One viewer remarked: ‘The Queen shrugs as if she doesn’t understand why the fuss is all about. So cute.’

Comedian Omid Djalili, who hosted the celebration in the role of Herald, joked about the fact she was in the crowd

the Platinum Jubilee celebration saw over 500 horses and 1,000 performers create a 90-minute production

Another added: ‘The Queen always seems like she would be a right laugh.’

Elsewhere comedian Omid Djalili, who hosted the celebration in the role of Herald, joked about the fact she was in the crowd but missed the State Opening of Parliament.

He quipped: “Your Royal Highness, on behalf of everyone here we would like to thank you, very humbly, for picking us over the State Opening of Parliament.

“You did the right thing, and I won £5 in a bet with my local kebab shop owner in Ipswich.”

As applause broke out the camera showed her wryly smilling before raising her arm in the air as acknowledgement.

But not all of the Platinum Jubilee celebration was as well-received.

Tom Cruise, whose long-awaited film Top Gun: Maverick is hitting cinemas at the end of this month, was slammed online for ‘plugging’ his forthcoming feature during the special evening.

The 59-year-old American film star, whose net worth is thought to be a cool £490.2million, sat down for an interview with Phillip Schofield and Julie Etchingham during the celebratory evening, but was soon at the heart of Twitter discussion after speaking of his upcoming film at length.

‘Why has he promoted his new film?’: Tom Cruise has been slammed by ITV viewers for ‘plugging’ Top Gun: Maverick during The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebration on Sunday

Top Gun: Maverick is the anticipated sequel to the 1986 original Top Gun, with its release initially slated for July 12, 2019, before complex flight sequences, the Covid pandemic and scheduling conflicts pushed it back to 2022.

‘Every film I make is important, but this one, people have been asking for decades. For decades I’ve been thinking “what could I do?”‘, the Hollywood icon explained to Phillip, 60, and Julie, 52.

The production of the new instalment was ’emotional’ for Tom, but taking the step to create a sequel to the commercial hit was ‘for the fans.’

Another viewer penned: ‘So you think if #TomCruise didn’t have a big film release, would he have appeared here for #platinumjubilee ??’

A third sarcastic tweet read: ‘Thought it was the Queen’s Jubilee not an opportunity for Tom Cruise to promote himself’.
