The jury in the Johnny Depp vs Amber Heard defamation trial has reached a verdict and are now deciding what in the way of damages will be awarded.

In a dramatic courtroom moment this afternoon, the jury returned with their verdict only to be told by the judge that they hadn’t completed the paperwork properly.

They seem to have decided in favor of one of the two celebrities, but have not decided how much money the wronged party is entitled to.

Now, they are deciding how much to award. They must award at least $1.

After receiving the verdict, Judge Penney Azcarate said: ‘I need to give the forms back to you. When you for a defamatory statement, one or more you, you need to fill out the compensatory damages.

‘It needs to be at least a dollar up to whatever the damages. For punitive damages you can put a zero

‘I need those lines filled out. Retire back to the deliberation room and do that for me.’

Amber Heard is in the courtroom for the verdict but Johnny Depp remains in the UK, where he has played guitar on stage this weekend. He is tuning into the verdict on TV, like the rest of the world.

The jury reached a verdict but failed to specify how much money the guilty party must pay the other. They were sent back to decide

Amber Heard waiting for the verdict on Wednesday afternoon. Johnny Depp is not in court

Johnny Depp is shown in London today. He flew there at the end of last week at the conclusion of the trial. He will watch the verdict via video link today

Johnny Depp’s lawyer Camille Vasquez is shown arriving at the Fairfax County Courthouse on Wednesday

His hotshot attorney Camille Vasquez is at court in Fairfax County, Virginia, where the trial has played out in front of the world for the last several months.

Ahead of her arrival, Amber’s attorneys released a statement saying: ‘Your presence shows where your priorities are. Johnny Depp plays guitar in the UK while Amber Heard waits for a verdict in Virginia.

‘Depp is taking his snickering and lack of seriousness on tour.’

Among those in the audience to watch one of Johnny’s London performances was Kate Moss – his British ex-girlfriend who took the stand at the trial to defend him.

It brings an end to the dramatic defamation trial that has gripped the world for weeks and shed new light on the couple’s toxic 2015 marriage.

The saga began when Johnny sued Amber for defamation over a 2018 op-ed she wrote for The Washington Post, which did not name him but in which she detailed overcoming domestic abuse and violence.

Their divorce had already been publicly picked apart and allegations of abuse were contained in court records.

Amber Heard arrives for the reading of the verdict in her case against Johnny Depp

The document, filed in federal court last week, contains a section where jurors will have to decide on the damages for Depp

One of the statements jurors were asked to discern if inflammatory, made by Heard in a Washington Post piece that alleged she was abused by Depp

At the trial, Johnny’s attorneys painted Amber as a fame-hungry liar who staged photos while sporting bruises in an effort to smear his name and garner sympathy.

Her attorneys said she was being forced to relive the trauma of their marriage and divorce on a world stage, and that she just wanted to move on with her life as a mother.

The jury is deciding which of them is at fault and who should be awarded damages.

Johnny initially sued Amber for $50million and she countersued for $100million.

The jury was asked to consider 42 questions; 24 questions for Depp’s claims and 18 for Heard’s.

A verdict form is used to formalize the jury’s decision on the case.

One of the most notable moments of the trial was Kate Moss taking the stand last week

Spanning eight pages, it means the jury has to decide on dozens of matters before reaching their verdict.

There is also a section where they will have to decide on the damages for Depp and Heard – and any punitive damages.

The case is now being deliberated by the jury after six weeks of graphic and raw evidence about Depp and Heard’s stormy four year relationship and 15 month marriage.

Throughout the trial there were arguments over pints of wine, evidence photos of Depp passed out with ice cream on his lap, images of lines of cocaine on kitchen tables and a particularly unsavory argument over feces in the couple’s marital bed.

The pair both took the stand but refused to speak to each other.

Johnny did not even look his ex-wife in the eye throughout.

She appealed to the jury, regularly glancing at them while giving testimony and crying as she recalled the sordid details of their brief marriage.

She was forced to admit on the stand that she did not donate the entirety of her $7million divorce settlement to charity, as she had promised to do, and that her billionaire ex-boyfriend Elon Musk made some payments in her name.

There were graphic images of Johnny Depp’s severed finger after the pair fought.
