Billionaire oil heiress Ivy Getty tied the knot in a lavish wedding in San Francisco this weekend, where she was surrounded by glitterati and dressed to the nines in a custom John Galliano gown.

The 26-year-old said ‘I do’ to photographer Tobias ‘Toby’ Engel at San Francisco’s City Hall on November 7, but this was no quickie justice of the peace affair: The newlyweds held their nuptials in the rotunda of the historic Beaux-Arts building and partied the night away.

Ivy was certainly the picture of glamour in her bespoke gown, which was covered in glittering mirror fragments and topped with a veil embroidered with guitars for her late father and walnuts for her late grandmother.

She was less bridal, though, during a theme party that also took place this weekend, in which she and her friends — including actress Anya Taylor-Joy — dressed up in ’60s-themed costumes complete with period hair and makeup.

Among the guests at the A-list event were members of Ivy’s family, including her aunt Vanessa Getty and her first cousin, transgender model and activist Nats Getty.

Ivy is the great-granddaughter of oil tycoon Jean Paul Getty and granddaughter of Gordon Peter Getty, who was on the Forbes 400 list of the wealthiest Americans before his passing.

Her father, John Gilbert, died of a fentanyl overdose and heart complication last year at age 52.

Also at the exclusive event was designer Wes Gordon, designer Mimi Wade, influencer Marta Mae, musician Petite Meller, fashion editor Hamish Bowles, activist Marsha Molinari, model Laura Hanson Sims, British TV host Fletcher Cowan, and filmmaker (and Kiernan Shipka’s boyfriend) Christian Coppola.

Actress Anya Taylor-Joy attended as well, and shared her well wishes on Instagram.

‘My baby girl got married yesterday,’ she wrote. ‘Being by your side all these years and your maid of honour has been nothing short of a privilege and your existence, nothing short of a miracle. I am so PROUD of the woman you’ve become. If you’re ever in any doubt- I have loved you and will love you, forever.

‘My grandmother always wore John Galliano’s designs,’ Ivy told Vogue. ‘My grandmother always admired him so it felt as if she was there with me during all of this’

‘CONGRATULATIONS LIL SPICE MONKEY! You truly were the most beautiful bride,’ she added.

Images also show guests living it up at the party, dancing top music and posing for photos on a rooftop.

But certainly the most eye-catching was her dress, which she said couldn’t be designed by anyone other than John Galliano for Maison Margiela.

The dress has a corset the color of Ivy’s skin tone, which was padded at the hips to make her waist look smaller. That was covered with tulle, which was then topped with mirror fragment dress wired together like jewelry.

‘My grandmother always wore John Galliano’s designs,’ Ivy told Vogue. ‘My grandmother always admired him so it felt as if she was there with me during all of this.’

Her grandmother likely would have worn Galliano’s designs for Givenchy, which he helmed from 1995 to 1996, and Christian Dior, which he became creative director of in October 1996. He was ousted from Dior in 2011 after video surfaced of him going on a drunken antisemitic tirade in Paris, saying ‘I love Hitler.’

Getty said that knowing how much her grandmother liked Galliano’s designs made it an easy choice.

‘After my grandmother’s passing — she was really more like a mother to me — I felt this connection to John. I knew I wanted him to create the dress for my wedding. My aunt Vanessa, who I am very close to, was connected to him through a friend, and here we are.’

On the big day, she added Louboutin heels. The ring, which had belonged to Toby’s grandmother, was customized to include Ivys grandmother’s diamonds

Anne McNally, Air Mail Editor-at-Large, shared a photo from the event

They met for the first time over Zoom during the pandemic, and Ivy said they instantly clicked.

‘We just understood each other,’ Ivy says. ‘From growing up around his designs and knowing them so well, I felt like I already knew him, but this whole experience allowed me to get to know a new part of him.

‘The entire process was incredibly personal, which allowed us to get even closer. The feelings [that came along with] creating my wedding dress never got old, I am still pinching myself.’

Ivy was involved in the design process, putting together a mood board at Galliano’s request — but she insisted he should do whatever he wanted.

‘I had complete faith and trust in Galliano and his creative process. I knew I was in good hands,’ she said.

He did look to her mood board for inspiration, including nods to her late father and grandmother, who both died in 2020.

The wedding weekend included several events, including this one with a hidden door

First, he included walnuts, which Ivy had put on her mood board because her grandmother had grown up on a walnut farm.

He also included guitars, an homage to Ivy’s father, who was a musician.

‘Not physically having two of the most important people in my life with me on my wedding day is extremely hard, but through John’s vision and creativity, he was easily able to bring their presence to life,’ Ivy said.

Finally, the veil includes images of elephants, because Galliano had joked about them during the design process and Ivy wanted to have a ‘momento’ of the designer in the veil.

Ivy had three fittings with the gown, first in LA, then in Paris, then in London with her bridesmaids around.

‘Each fitting felt like a dream. I constantly had to remind myself this was actually happening in real life,’ she said.

On the big day, she added Louboutin heels and her sapphire engagement ring, which she got when her husband proposed in Capri.

The wedding weekend also included either a pre-wedding party or an after-party, in which guests wore ’60s-themed outfits

The heiress shared a few pictures of the weekend on Instagram, thanking her bridesmaids and the venue, Jackie O’ Beach Club, for letting her dance on the stage

The socialite embraced the bridal theme and was dressed in a white babydoll dress with puffy sleeves on a Medditerranean sea outing with her bridesmasids.

‘Thank you Vanessa Getty, Isabel Getty, Vanessa Waibel, Kerri Alison for the most amazing bachelorette ever,’ she wrote on Instagram. ‘@Jackieomykonos, thank you for being my favorite place ever and letting me dance on stage the whole night,’ she added in a shout out to the venue.

‘Ready to go home and sleep xx ps we barely took any pictures but that always means it was lots of fun.’

Photos showed an eventful evening of dancing, singing, and laughing.

While the bride-to-be was wearing a white dress, a veil and a white handbag, her four bridesmaids all donned matching pink shorts with white tops and bikinis.

As the night progressed, the bridal beauty was seen dancing the night away on stage with a shirtless dancer as the crowd cheered her on.

The crew then changed outfits and Ivy swapped her veil and babydoll dress for a crown of white roses and a nude, shimmery dress.

The heiress, known for her edgy style, stunned in striking makeup with thick eyeliner and a bejewelled nude lip, also sported by her bridesmaids.

The celebrations went on for the whole weekend, with the girls sharing snaps of them singing at a bar during the day as well as in a taxi.

As the night went on, it appears that Ivy’s fiancé joined her for the celebrations at the beach club. The two could be seen cuddling up to each other while singing during the event.

The Jackie O Beach club is a select venue located in Paradise Bay on the Greek island, which hosts drag shows and events all year round.

Tragic history of the Getty family ‘curse’

ABDUCTION DRAMA: J. Paul Getty III, the grandson of the family patriarch, was sensationally kidnapped in Rome in 1973, aged 16.

When his notoriously tight-fisted grandfather refused to pay ransom, the abductors cut off the boy’s ear and mailed it to his family. Getty eventually relented and paid a $3million ransom.

The teenager survived but began using drugs and suffered a debilitating stroke in his 20s. He died aged 54.

CHILD DEATH: The oil baron’s youngest child, Timothy Ware Getty, suffered a brain tumor aged six and died at the age of 12 in 1958.

Getty’s then-wife Teddy, a former nightclub singer, later wrote in a memoir that the tycoon had admonished her over the boy’s expensive medical bills.

They divorced soon after Timothy’s death, but Teddy lived until 2017 when she died aged 103. Another of Getty’s sons, George, died in a suspected suicide in 1973.

HEROIN DEATH: Talitha Pol, a Dutch actress who married J. Paul Getty Jr in 1966, died of a heroin overdose five years later in 1971.

Pol had lived her own jet-setting life and was the subject of a famous photo with her husband on a Marrakech rooftop in 1969.

SECOND FAMILY: Gordon Getty had his own brush with scandal in 1999 when the father of four sons with his wife, Ann, acknowledged he had a second family in Los Angeles that included three daughters.

The acknowledgement came after the daughters filed court papers to change their last names to Getty.

FOUND DEAD AT HOME: Andrew Getty, another grandson of the oil tycoon, was found dead by his girlfriend at his Hollywood Hills mansion in 2015. He was 47.

Coroners found he had died of an accidental intestinal hemorrhage and also had a toxic level of methamphetamine in his system.

Ivy’s father, musician John Gilbert Getty, died at a hotel in Texas on November 20 last year.

His death came just two months after his mother, Anne Gilbert, died of a heart attack at the age of 79 and nearly six years after John’s brother Andrew died of a hemorrhage in 2015 with a toxic level of methamphetamine in his system.

Following his death, Ivy shared a moving tribute to her father on social media, where she described him as the ‘coolest man to ever land on this planet’, while sharing several images of John.

‘My father was awesome – coolest man to ever land on this planet and I will forever be the proudest daughter,’ she wrote.

‘Love you so much Dad….life is cruel sometimes…. I have not one, but two guardian angels watching over me now…here are some of my favorite pictures of him (and selfishly a couple of us).’

In a second post, she continued: ‘My dad would absolutely love if I shared photos of him and talked about how much he meant to me so I am doing that.’

Getty noted that Fiji water was her dad’s favorite water, Whispering Angel was his favorite rosé, and said that ‘he loved ice cream and putting it in the fridge for at least 30 minutes before consumption,’ explaining: ‘He wanted to eat it (or really drink it like a soup).’

Ivy told how her father split his time between London and Los Angeles and praised his guitar skills.

She wrote: ‘He was an absolute beast at any instrument but his favorite was guitar. He held all the chords totally different that anyone else because he taught himself.’

Ivy also spoke of how ‘proud’ she was to be the only ‘consistent’ woman in her father’s life as she reflected on his womanizing ways.

‘I don’t think there was a single girlfriend he had that I wasn’t a complete b***h to. I liked being his only child and it felt like it was just us two,’ she wrote.

‘He was quite the heartbreaker and I remember I used to get flooded by Facebook messages from random women trying to contact me to reach my father lol.’

Ivy was born in 1994 to John and mother Alyssa Boothby, also known as Alyssa Jewels, who she described as ‘the only woman I would want my father to be with.’

‘There was literally no way my parents would ever get back together lol – but they always were sweet and I never had to deal with them fighting with each other,’ she added.

John was one of seven children born to Gordon Getty, once the sole benefactor of the Getty family’s $5.4billion fortune before he split it up into six separate trusts in 1985.

Gordon, 86, is the only surviving child of five sons born to the oil tycoon, and is among his many heirs which include several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
