The high-end fashion brand behind Lady Gaga’s inauguration dress has denied that the gown was ‘bulletproof’ after the singer claimed to Vogue that the design was made to offer extra protection while she performed at President Joe Biden’s January ceremony.
In a statement given exclusively to DailyMail.com, a spokesperson for Parisian fashion brand Schiaparelli explained that the black-and-red gown worn by Gaga was ‘not actually bulletproof’ – although they noted that the singer may have chosen to wear a form of protection underneath.
‘The dress was not actually bulletproof, we cannot comment on what she may have worn underneath,’ a brand representative said.
The statement comes after Gaga, 35, told British Vogue that she performed at the inauguration in a ‘Schiaparelli bulletproof dress’, while opening up about the ‘deep fear’ she felt during Donald Trump’s presidency.
Calling her performance at the 59th presidential inauguration ‘one of the proudest days of my whole life,’ she then claimed that the voluminous Schiaparelli gown she wore on-stage was ironclad – a fact that the brand has now denied.

It may be that Gaga chose to wear a bulletproof vest under the design as a form of additional protection in the wake of the Capitol riots on January 6
The House of Gucci star opened up about the career high of singing at the inauguration of the 46th President of the United States before very casually mentioning her bulletproof dress.
‘That has to be one of the proudest days of my whole life. Like many people in America, I felt a deep fear when Trump was president, and ushering 45 out and 46 in is something I’ll be able to tell my children all about.
‘Singing in a Schiaparelli bulletproof dress. I don’t know if people know this about me, but if I weren’t who I am today, I would have been a combat journalist. That was one of my dreams,’ she continued to say.

Premier Body Armor, for example, sells a bulletproof vest that is designed to go underneath your clothes like an ‘undershirt’ and is ‘comfortable and concealable enough to wear to high-profile outings,’ according to the brand.
‘The Executive Vest was designed to have the same level of protection as an external vest, but be comfortable and concealable enough to wear to high-profile outings,’ the description on their website reads.
‘Worn like an undershirt, The Executive Vest all but disappears under a button-down shirt. The easily removable outer shell is made from a space-age antimicrobial material that wicks away moisture and is breathable.
‘Features like these, make it the go-to choice for countless International business travelers, politicians, music artists, celebrities, and concerned individuals alike.’
Wings: ‘I’ll never forget speaking to this young man who I was with (she said of the US Marine that walked her in) and he asked me if I was nervous and I said yes, but sometimes fashion can really give you wings… like a dove’
Fashion moment: ‘…I wore this Schiaparelli design for the inauguration, and nobody knows this, but this is a bulletproof dress,’ she told Vogue adding ‘When I saw that golden dove, I just knew that this was the right piece’
Another vest, which is made by the brand Citizen, said it is so ‘discreet’ that it is ‘ideal for blending into a crowd.’
‘The V-Shield Ultra Conceal Female Body Armor and Carrier answers the demands for a completely concealable body armor system, ideal for blending into a crowd. This bulletproof vest discreetly covers the vitals, front, and back (heart, lungs, liver, and kidneys),’ the description of the product reads.
‘The .25″ thick armor can be concealed by almost any clothing. Not only is this vest our most discreet option, but it also boasts the highest comfort for all-day use.
‘Our fabrics are selected for their moisture-wicking and breathable qualities, to reduce odor and discomfort.’
The Poker Face singer said of the capitol riots on January 6: ‘When I was at the Capitol, the day before the inauguration, I remember walking around and looking for evidence of the insurrection.’
She had also filmed a video with the publication where she walked through some of her most iconic looks throughout the years, and continued to speak on her inauguration look, which she called ‘one of my favorite thing I’ve ever worn.’
‘…I wore this Schiaparelli design for the inauguration, and nobody knows this, but this is a bulletproof dress.
‘When I saw that golden dove, I just knew that this was the right piece, and I knew Schiaparelli being an Italian fashion house, it was something that I really really wanted to do for my heritage as an Italian-American woman that would be singing for president 45 to be leaving and to invite president 46 into office.’
Risk taker: The House Of Gucci star has taken plenty of fashion risks over the years including wearing a dress fully made of meat and even sky high heels, but the bulletproof dress was a remarkable first for her; pictured August 7

Gaga took to the stage at the inauguration and sang the Star Spangled Banner right before Vice President Kamala Harris was sworn in.
Of course security was an at all-time high amid the state of political unrest, with federal law enforcement agencies and secret service launching a security mobilization that was the first of its kind in US history.
The U.S. Capitol and other federal buildings in Washington, DC were backed by 15,000 national guard troops, as well as thousands of police.
Prior to being granted the honor of performing alongside the likes of Jennifer Lopez at the inauguration, she had aggressively campaigned for Biden and he had even introduced her at the 2016 Academy Awards.
