BBC Breakfast viewers were left in shock on Friday as they dubbed an interview with James Blunt ‘unprofessional’ and ‘bizarre’.

The singer, 47, appeared in the studio to discuss his tour, but was subjected to questioning about plastic surgery and his opinion on Uber.

During the chat with Charlie Stayt and Naga Munchetty there were several awkward silences and jokes from the presenters that didn’t land, which didn’t go unnoticed by viewers.

‘I have ever seen anything more unprofessional’: BBC Breakfast viewers slammed James Blunt interview on Friday morning as he was quizzed about plastic surgery in a ‘bizarre’ chat

Charlie first asked the singer after a montage of music videos were played: ‘You appear to be getting younger – can I reflect on that for a moment?

‘Looking at that video a moment ago, and looking at you now – what’s going on?’

Taken aback, James said: ‘I think with plastic surgery, little and often is the technique I’d advise.’

As Charlie replied: ‘As you well know, people will think that’s a double bluff’, a deadpan James responded: ‘It’s not, no.’

After an uncomfortable silence, James added: ‘I just… I don’t know where to go from here.’

Eek: During the chat with Charlie Stayt and Naga Munchetty there were several awkward silences and jokes from the presenters that didn’t land, which didn’t go unnoticed by viewers

Another cringeworthy moment during the chat came when Naga questioned whether he slept on his tour bus with the rest of his crew when on the road – and if he really used Uber.

James said about going back on tour and sleeping on his bus: ‘There is no best bunk, they’re all the same… where is my bunk? Is that what you’re asking? Dodgy question.’

Naga replied: ‘Why? I’m not going to seek it put, don’t worry, you’re safe’, to which James responded: ‘There’s 16 bunks I’m on one of the bottom ones.’

Why? The singer, 47, appeared in the studio to discuss his tour, but was subjected to questioning about plastic surgery and his opinion on Uber

Naga persisted with her bizarre line of questioning, adding: ‘Is it in the corner of the bus? Your own private corner?’ as a bemused-looking James said: ‘I’m just in a corridor.’

Naga later asked: ‘Is your big tour bus outside?’ and as James responded that he would instead be going to get back to his hotel by Uber, she said: ‘No you’re not! You’re gong to call an Uber? James Blunt? You don’t a have a car?’

James said: ‘Yes. I use a different name for the Uber.’

Naga then responded: ‘They know it’s you though’ – despite it being unlikely considering Uber’s army of drivers.

‘They completely ruined what could have been a good interview’: Viewers were left perplexed by the random nature of the chat as they took to Twitter in droves to complain

Viewers were left perplexed by the random nature of the chat, taking to Twitter to pen: ‘Stupid irrelevant questions. What were you thinking?’; ‘What a dreadful interview by Charlie and Naga, we had to turn it off as it was so appalling, even James Blunt thought so.’

‘Personally I think JB is great and very funny on Twitter but @BBCBreakfast team completely ruined what could have been a fun interview. Instead it was awkward and very unfunny. Just let the guest flow. Charlie and Naga are clumsy at best’;

‘Breakfast television on BBC should either get moved to CBBies or axed. I have never seen anything more unprofessional as the Mr Blunt interview. Naga and Charlie pathetic. It was on par with Dan Walkers out of depth questioning.’;

‘Very possibly the worst interview I’ve ever heard. Well done James for putting up with their inane questioning with such good grace.’; ‘Who writes the questions for guests on @BBCBreakfast? They’re f***ing ridiculous. Thank god @JamesBlunthas a sense of humour’;

‘What has happened to BBC Breakfast?’ Viewers were shocked by the line of questioning

‘Slightly cringing at this interview on @BBCBreakfast with @JamesBlunt “which bunk, in the corner, is it the best bunk”. Uncomfortable.’; ‘I only heard a small it if this interview, but I must say that there are several times when one or the other of these two presenters are stone deaf to proper and respectful questioning of guests. This day was an inexcusable disaster. Sorry to James.’;

‘James Blunt is charming, humble and a top bloke despite the inane questions thrown at him on BBC BREAKFAST’; ‘What a terrible terrible interview by BBC breakfast #this morning with James Blunt#

‘Omg the presenters on BBC Breakfast asking James Blunt bizarre questions!’; ‘What has happened to @BBCBreakfast? A disaster of an interview with @JamesBlunt this morning. And that’s from @TVNaga01 and @CharlieStayt whose interviews are normally streets ahead of the other crew of Dan and Sally.’

MailOnline has contacted James’ representative and a BBC spokesperson for comment.

James began the chat by confirming his father Charles was still doing well after a cousin also called Charles Blunt donated a kidney to save the singer’s father’s life.

He also admitted he thought his record company were ringing to sack him before they told him they wanted him to release a greatest hits album.

James quipped: ‘When my record company called me and said, “Your album deal is over – you’ve put out six records, maybe it’s time to put out a greatest hits”

‘I really thought they might be firing me. But the bad news for the nation is they’ve signed me for a new record deal, so the agony continues.’

James has just kicked off a nine date UK arena tour which will see him celebrate songs spanning a 17-year career that has sold over 23 million album as well as five Grammy Award nominations.
