This is the moment a clumsy father fell face-first into a tiny pond and even pulls off a complete somersault in just two feet of water.

David Edgley, 39, was doing his biannual job of cleaning the family pond at his home in Corringham, Essex, last Saturday so had placed a plank of wood across the body of water.

But while Mr Edgley was going about his work, he lost his balance and appears to have tried to use his hands in the water to balance himself, but instead miraculously manages to do a 360-degree spin underneath the wood through the water.

His partner Michelle Prudden ‘burst out laughing’ when she was sent the footage by electrical company owner David and he’s since joked that he will ensure she’s present next time as his personal ‘lifeguard’.

The CCTV clip shows the father-of-three leaning over the pond before he loses his balance, does a rapid spin around the plank, and emerges from the water stunned and soaking from head to toe.

David, of Corringham, Essex, said: ‘I never thought I would fall in my tiny pond, but when my hands slipped under the plank for half a second I thought, s*** this is really happening I’m going to get wet.

‘Thank God I only have a small pond with small fish in it. Next time I’ll make sure Michelle is there to be a lifeguard when I maintain the pond.’

Mother-of-two Michelle said: ‘He can be quite clumsy and scatty.

‘I was at a gymnastics meeting with his daughter and he sent the video to me and I was just in absolute stitches.

‘I was in a room on my own full of mums and dads and I just burst out laughing.

‘Family and friends have said ”that can only happen to you Dave” and ”typical Dave”. He went down the pub yesterday and they were all saying ”oh, got out of the pond did you?”’

The dental receptionist shared the clip of David ‘taking a dip’ online where it’s received more than 300 likes, comments and shares.

Michelle said: ‘We have a fish pond in the garden, the sun was shining and David was cleaning the filter and stuff.

‘He put a plank of wood across the pond for him to kneel on and where the side of the pond has green algae he obviously lost his balance and slid down the green algae and did a somersault into the pond.

‘How he did he 360 spin I’ll never know.

‘It’s 2ft of water and he literally somersaulted into it. It’s quite mad actually all my friends have been absolutely cracking up at it.

‘I think the water was so cold that he was actually trying to catch his breath and he couldn’t quite believe what had happened. So he was kneeling on the wheely bin trying to catch his breath thinking ‘what the hell?”
