Nicholas Brendon is ‘waiting to speak on’ Joss Whedon allegations as he undergoes surgery

Buffy The Vampire slayer star Nicholas Brendon says he is ‘waiting to speak on’ the recent allegations made against series creator Joss Whedon and his on set conduct.

However, he is currently recovering after suffering from a paralysed penis and anus after slipping on some ice in a freak accident. 

The actor, 49, said during a Facebook Live on Saturday: ‘It’s very personal for me so I’ll speak on that when I’m ready to speak on that because [Whedon] and I had a relationship.

Brendon, who underwent emergency spinal surgery on Monday after slipping and injuring his back, asked his fans to give him time to ‘heal and come up with a statement that represents [him].’ 

He explained to his audience that the spinal injury has left his anus and penis ‘kinda paralyzed,’ which, along with incessant nausea, has made him ‘miserable’ in recent days.

‘My anus is kinda paralyzed and so is my penis, which is weird. I gotta sit down to p**s because I don’t know if I’m s**tting or p**sing,’ said the star, adding: ‘It’s crazy. Good times is what I say.’

After sharing the details of his freak accident, Brendon briefly touched on the allegations his former co-star Charisma Carpenter made against Whedon last week, stressing that he ‘supports CC 100%’ and ‘loves [her] very much.’  

‘We all had different relationships with Joss and so, yeah, I love CC, so I just want her to know that and that is all I am going to speak on it right now.’ 

Brendon, who famously played Xander Harris, noted that his experience on Buffy is ‘a big part of [his] life,’ as well as ‘a very emotional part of [his] life,’ so he ‘wants to give it the proper respect and time that it deserves and not when I am nauseous and hung up.’

Touching on the subject once more during the nearly 30-minute livestream, Nicholas remarked that the entire situation ‘makes [him] sick,’ while reiterating: ‘It’s not just something I want to make a comment on, do you know what I mean?’

‘When things happen in life like this with social media and stuff, it’s hard for me. 

‘If you don’t mind, I’m going to get some spinal surgery tomorrow and heal and come up with a statement that represents me,’ he concluded.

According to Brendon’s partner Sarah Allison, the actor is out of surgery as of Monday and ‘doing well’ and that he will address his audience personally ‘once he’s feeling up to it.’

Brendon’s impromptu livestream on Saturday came just one day prior to former co-star David Boreanaz pledge of support for Carpenter after she said Whedon fostered a ‘hostile and toxic environment’ on the set of the 90s hit. 

‘I am here for you to listen and support you,’ the Philadelphia native, 51, who portrayed Angel on Buffy from 1997-2003 and the spin-off Angel from 1999-2004, said on the site. ‘Proud of your strength.’

Carpenter, 50, replied Sunday, ‘I know you’re there for me, David. I appreciate all you’ve done to demonstrate that support privately as well. Especially since Wednesday … thank you so much.’

Boreanaz was the latest person to chime in after Carpenter said Wednesday that she supported actor Ray Fisher, 33, who claimed last summer that ‘Whedon’s on-set treatment of the cast and crew of Justice League was gross, abusive, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable.’

Carpenter shared a two-page account of her own working experience with Whedon, 56, playing Cordelia Chase on 57 episodes of Buffy from 1997-2002.

Among Carpenter’s claims was that Whedon had called her fat during a time she was expecting a child, and asked her if she was planning to keep her child in a private meeting. 

Whedon ‘proceeded to attack my character, mock my religious beliefs, accuse me of sabotaging the show, and then unceremoniously fired me the following season once I gave birth,’ Carpenter said in the post.

Carpenter said that Whedon ‘has a history of being casually cruel’ and misused his power in manipulating people on the set of the TV show.

‘While he found his misconduct amusing, it only served to intensify my performance anxiety, disempower me, and alienate me from my peers,’ Carpenter said. ‘The disturbing incidents triggered a chronic physical condition from which I still suffer.’

The actress said she ‘felt powerless and alone’ but ‘swallowed the mistreatment and carried on’ amid the imbalance of power.

She said in the post that she was involved in the probe of Whedon by Warner Bros. stemming from Fisher’s complaints, with the studio saying that ‘remedial action’ had been taken as result of the investigation.

‘It troubles and saddens me that, in 2021, professionals still have to choose between whistleblowing in the workplace and job security,’ she said. ‘As a single mother whose family’s livelihood is dependent on my craft, I’m scared. 

‘Despite my fear about its impact on my future, I can no longer remain silent. This is overdue and necessary. It’s time.’

Buffy’s titular star Sarah Michelle Gellar posted a message of support in the wake of Carpenter’s claims.

‘While I am proud to have my name associated with Buffy Summers, I don’t want to be forever associated with the name Joss Whedon,’ Gellar wrote. ‘I stand with all survivors of abuse and am proud of them for speaking out.’

The show’s Michelle Trachtenberg and Amber Benson also posted messages in unity with Carpenter.
